There’s nothing better than a well thought out video game with good action along with an equally good story. We’ve looked at a bunch of games…Much of which hit on the action criteria while missing completely when it came to the storytelling.
We did find a few that stood out however. Below are the overachievers delivering on both action and enjoyable storyline.
République
A young woman named Hope is being held captive by a rogue agency at the hands of a radical totalitarian government. Hope is terrified of her impending demise.
She managed to gain the help of an unknown person who can communicate with her through a phone she possesses. The interactive story meshes well throughout the game and is quite riveting.
The game is divided in is five different episodes:
- Episode 1: Exordium
- Episode 2: Metamorphosis
- Episode 3: Ones and Zeroes
- Episode 4: God’s Acre
- Episode 5: Terminus
Players must hack into OMNI View, the facility’s security system, help Hope evaded guards, uncover the secrets of the Republic and ultimately help escape her death. The gameplay is like medal gear solid. The graphic is amongst the best.

Shadowgun Legends
Shadowgun Legends is a first-person shooter with a very interesting concept. Shadowgun Legends packs enough action to satisfy players for many years to come. The game offers a real time p-vs-p multiplayer mode, but the campaign mode is where its at.
The game’s storyline is a science fiction with a wide scope spanning from different planets. Campaign mode can be played cooperatively with friends and family.
The graphics for Shadowgun legends is simply amazing. It is one of the few mobile games you’ll find with console and PC quality graphics. This is the third installment of the Shadowgun series.

Life is Strange
Life is strange is point and click graphic adventure game. Max Caulfield is an 18-year-old girl in her last year of high school. Max is an aspiring photographer attending an art academy.
After experiencing horrific visions of a massive tornado ravaging her town and later witnessing the murder of one her classmates, Max discovered she has the uncanny ability to rewind time and reverse the present. Max must learn to live with her new-found ability and make sense of the craziness going on around her.
The games is devised in five different episodes:
- Episode 1: Chrysalis
- Episode 2: Out of Time
- Episode 3: Chaos Theory
- Episode 4: Dark Room
- Episode 5: Polarized
The graphics and art style in life is strange are quite unique, which gives the game a nice look and feel. The sounds were masterfully done, and the game is also accompanied by an impressive soundtrack.

FZ9: Timeshift – Legacy of The Cold War
FZ9 is a first-person shooter by Hiker Games with an invigorating story brewing at its core. The story has plenty of awesome twists. In the game, Mak, a special forces soldier has been injected with FZ9, an experimental serum which turns him into a legendary super solider.
The game is set in the 1950s during the cold war. A time when a fictional terrorist organization called the AS is running rampant and terrorizing the globe on a massive scale.
With his new abilities, while Mak is in motion, the world around him proceeds on a normal time continuum. When Mak is standing still however, time slows down to a fraction of a second. Players have the ability to dodge speeding bullets, eliminate unsuspecting enemies, all in a matrix style sow motion sequence.

Eternium
Never before seen with the naked eye, Ragadam is a mysterious being menacing and corrupting Elderath, the human home world along with all of the rest of Eternium. As Ragadam continues his reign, converting normal citizen into his evil followers, foreboding entire planets to his rule…a hero must rise to stand against Ragadam.
Eternium currently includes 4 acts, with the fourth act being released in August 2018. Throughout the game, the hero, you, the player is in a constant pursuit of the untouchable Ragadam. The story is filed interesting twists and turns which keeps players at the edge of their seats.
This game is known for its innovative touch controls. Players can employ spells and skilled attacks with just a couple swipes of the finger. The controls are implemented so to be smooth and seamless motions.

Noblemen: 1896
Noblemen 1896 is an action pack story driven war strategy game. It’s the year 1896, an unknown disease, a viral infection has taken form and is rapidly killing off the population. The people are calling it the Great Plague.
The disease exterminated more 70 percent of the population. As if that wasn’t enough, several power-hungry corporations are taking advantage of the chaotic situation and attempting to seize power from the badly wounded government.
The Noblemen, an organization formed to fight alongside the government to aid in the fight against the against the united corporations.

Morphite
Morphite is a low poly 3d first person game. The best thing about Morphite is the intriguing story at the center of it which keeps us wanting more and more. Myrah Kale, the main character, is a young astronaut living on board a space station along with her father.
Myrah must travel to the far reaches of space to gather resources and supplies for the space station ,while trying to uncover the truth about her past.
The main story is narrated vocally throughout the levels, unraveling the mystery of Myrah, leading players on an adventure from which they will never look back.

The Walking Dead: Season Two
The Walking Dead: (The Game) Season Two is an episodic interactive story game base the popular Walking Dead comic book series. This is the sequel to Walking Dead: Season one where Clementine, a young child from the first season has grown into a more mature battle-hardened young girl.

The game is set in a fictional Georgia, after an escalating zombie apocalypse wipes out most of the living. It is loaded with action. The story in game is well developed with a lot of emotion flowing beneath the surface.

Syberia
Siberia is an adventure game that excels most notably in its story telling. Kate Walker is an American lawyer from New York working for the law firm, Marson and Lormont.
She is tasked with closing the sale of a toy factory for one of her firm’s top clients. Kate must travel to a village in the French Alps called Valadilene to find the owner of the toy company and complete the sale.
The voice acting in Syberia is masterfully implemented. The story gives us one perspective on how machines might fit into human civilization and the relationship we may garner with for these machines.

Beholder 2
Beholder 2 is the second installment in Beholder series. The game is convoluted with complex stories and unbelievable twists. Beholder is set in a country ruled by a totalitarian bureaucracy called the Ministry which controls almost every aspect of life.
You’ve been appointed as an officer in the town of Helmer. Each decision you make in the game effect the overall outcome of the game. You work to gain money to pay bills and acquire social reputation amongst work colleagues which is apparently important.
The dark sinister art style of Beholder is quite amazing. The developer ties everything up to make a quiet enjoyable adventure.
